Is Obama already falling into the usual trap for Dems by apologizing?

The truth of the matter is that when the Bush regime sends young men and women into an illegal, immoral, unnecessary and ghastly war based on deliberately falsified evidence and that war turns out to be a disaster by every conceivable criteria, then yes, the lives of those troops have been shamefully wasted. It is understood that both major parties are to avoid violating this political taboo. To imply that an American military action can be in vain or, worse, sinister in its motives and results is to cross a red line. To state the obvious truth would be in conflict with the necessary illusions that make it possible to continue recruiting naive, impressionable young men and women of military age. Empires rely first and foremost on the offensive power of their military machines for their continued ability to dominate and subjugate. For that reason, no one in the elite power structure, regardless of party, can be allowed to speak truths that may interfere with the ability to recruit and maintain that machine. It appears that despite his comparative lack of political experience Mr. Obama has already internalised this prime directive quite well.
Side note: John Kerry’s recent restating of his famous question ‘How do you ask a man to be the last to die for a mistake?’ http://kerry.senate.gov/v3/cfm/record.cfm?id=267987 is a reflection of the liberation he must feel after announcing he will not run for the presidency in 2008.
